Greener Pastures Field Day Aug. 23 in Spencer County



A variety of livestock, forage, and grazing topics will be presented at the 2022 Greener Pastures Field Day, presented by Soil and Water Conservation Districts and Purdue Extension offices of Dubois, Perry and Spencer counties.

The program will be held Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. CDT/6 p.m. EDT, at the Steckler Grassfed Farm in northern Spencer County. The farm is located at 21477 N. County Road 600 E., Dale.

Topics and speakers include "Forage Improvement and Species Selection" by Dr. Keith Johnson, Purdue Agronomy, "Livestock Watering Systems" by Robert Zupancic, USDA NRCS, and "Intensive Grazing with Multiple Animal Species" by Jason Tower, Purdue SIPAC. The mealtime topics will focus on "Soil Life and Grazing Effects" by Victor Shelton, farmer/retired USDA NRCS, and "Farm Overview and Practices" by Zach Tischendorf, Steckler Grassfed Farms, with meal by Oink, Inc..

Cost of the program is $5 per person for meal and materials, with registration required by Aug. 16. To register, please contact your county Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) office: Dubois -- (812) 482-1171, Spencer -- (812) 649-9136 ext. 3, and Perry -- (812) 547-4686.

This program is partially funded through a Clean Water Indiana grant with the Warrick County SWCD, as well as local supporting agribusinesses.
