Purdue ASM Club Reconnects and Rebuilds

By Andi Anderson

Purdue University’s Agricultural Systems Management (ASM) Club is making a strong comeback as student leaders focus on creating opportunities for connection, learning, and growth beyond the classroom.

Founded in 1968, the ASM Club has been an integral part of Purdue’s College of Agriculture, helping students bridge academic learning with practical, real-world experiences.

Led by Corey Schmidt, a graduate student, and juniors Drew Monnin and Trevor Alberring, the club’s leadership team is working to rebuild its membership base and strengthen its impact.

Their mission is to provide a welcoming space where students from all agriculture majors can come together to learn, collaborate, and grow professionally.

“I knew early on that finding community was important for me both personally and professionally,” said Monnin. “That’s what the ASM Club is about—helping others connect, learn, and grow.”

With around 20 to 30 active members, the club’s renewed efforts have increased engagement through industry tours, networking events, and collaborative activities.

Recent visits to facilities like the ADM grain elevator in Logansport have given students firsthand exposure to agricultural operations, fostering valuable connections that often lead to internships and career opportunities.

The club also continues its tradition of service. Members have offered community assistance such as mower winterization and home maintenance support for local residents, applying their technical skills to meaningful causes. Faculty advisor William Field expressed pride in these initiatives, noting that service remains central to the club’s mission.

In addition to professional development, the ASM Club promotes inter-club collaboration, partnering with Purdue’s agronomy and dairy clubs to encourage interdisciplinary learning. “There’s so much synergy among agriculture majors,” Schmidt said. “By working together, we can expand our horizons and create lasting connections.”

Open to all students, the ASM Club offers more than just extracurricular involvement—it provides a platform for leadership, networking, and lifelong learning. “Purdue is big,” Alberring added, “but clubs like ASM help you find your place.”
