Congressman Jim Baird, representing Indiana’s 4th District, hosted U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and several state agricultural leaders for a farm tour at Everett Farms and Seed, LLC. The visit aimed to highlight the achievements and challenges faced by Indiana’s agricultural producers.
The event brought together state and industry leaders, including Indiana Department of Agriculture Director Don Lamb, Indiana Soybean Alliance Chair Denise Scarborough, Indiana Farm Bureau President Randy Kron, and Indiana Corn Growers & Corn Marketing Council Treasurer Tyler Everett. Also present were Representatives Rudy Yakym, Victoria Spartz, Mark Messmer, and Jefferson Shreve, along with other state officials and agricultural organization members.
Congressman Baird expressed appreciation for Secretary Rollins’s visit during the busy harvest season, emphasizing Indiana’s strong agricultural legacy. He noted that the tour took place soon after the Government’s major soybean trade agreement, which has boosted confidence among soybean growers.
“This farm tour could not have come at a better time,” said Baird. “Both Secretary Rollins and the Government have been great advocates for Rural America, truly putting our farmers first.”
Representative Yakym praised the dedication of Indiana’s farmers, describing them as the “heartbeat of America’s agricultural community.” Congressman Shreve also highlighted the benefits of the recent trade deal with China, which will see millions of tons of U.S. soybeans purchased, calling it a “win for Hoosier farmers and our ag economy.”
Congresswoman Spartz acknowledged the ongoing challenges of rising input costs and expressed her gratitude for continued federal support.
The event underscored the shared commitment among state and federal leaders to ensure Indiana agriculture remains resilient and prosperous for generations to come.
