Winter weather remains uncertain across parts of Indiana as forecasters continue to monitor a developing system moving through the state. According to the National Weather Service, conditions are likely to vary by location, with some areas seeing light snow and others facing a higher chance of measurable accumulation.
Because the system is still shifting, meteorologists continue to study updated models to understand its exact track.
Bloomington currently has only an 18 percent chance of receiving more than three inches of snow. This lower possibility suggests that the city may experience minor snowfall rather than heavier accumulation.
Light flurries and scattered snow showers are expected, but weather impacts should remain limited. Students, families, and travelers in the area are advised to stay aware of changing forecasts as temperatures remain below freezing.
In contrast, areas north of Indianapolis have a higher chance of seeing significant snowfall. Cities such as Lafayette show a more noticeable chance of receiving more than three inches, with forecasters estimating the probability at 57 percent. For these regions, snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may create travel challenges. People living or working in these northern counties may need to prepare for slower commutes and changing road conditions.
Across much of Indiana, strong winds continue to be a major factor. A wind advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., warning residents that gusts may reach up to 50 miles per hour. Such winds can make outdoor activities difficult and may cause small tree branches to fall. High winds combined with freezing temperatures can also make the air feel colder, increasing the need for appropriate winter clothing.
Overall, the winter system brings a mix of light snow, strong winds, and cold weather across the state. While Bloomington may see only limited snowfall, it is important for all communities to stay alert to the evolving forecast.
Forecasters encourage everyone to monitor local updates and take simple precautions, especially when traveling. Even small amounts of snow, when paired with strong winds, can create slippery roads and lower visibility. Staying informed and prepared helps keep people safe as winter weather moves through Indiana.
