St. Joseph County Farmers Meeting Supports Soil Health

St. Joseph County Farmers Meeting Supports Soil Health

By Andi Anderson

The St. Joseph County Farmers Meeting PARP for the Northwest District will take place on tomorrow, March 19, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. EST.

The event will be held at the Ester Singer Building located at the St. Joe Fairgrounds, 5117 S. Ironwood, South Bend, Indiana. This meeting aims to provide farmers with essential knowledge and updates to prepare for the upcoming crop year.

The event is coordinated by Emily Evers, ANR Educator. For registration or questions, participants may call 574‑235‑9605 or email everse@purdue.edu. Registration is encouraged to ensure smooth planning for the program.

The meeting will include a series of focused sessions designed to support farmers in strengthening soil health, improving field practices, and understanding regulatory changes that may influence farming decisions.

One of the main topics, Regenerating Soil Function with Cover Crops, will highlight how cover crops improve soil structure, moisture retention, and long‑term fertility. The session will help farmers learn how simple changes in field management can lead to healthier and more productive soils.

The Purdue on the Farm 2025 Review will provide insights from on‑farm trials and research conducted during the previous year. Farmers will hear about practical results, successful strategies, and lessons learned that can support better decision‑making for the 2026 season.

This review will give producers a clearer understanding of how research translates into real‑world field performance.

Another important portion of the program will be the 2026 ESA Regulatory Update, which will outline expected changes under the Endangered Species Act.

Farmers will receive information they need to stay compliant while planning pesticide use and field activities. Understanding these updates will help avoid disruptions and ensure safe and responsible farm management.

The St. Joseph County Farmers Meeting is designed to support the local agricultural community by offering education, resources, and up‑to‑date information.

Through expert-led discussions, farmers will gain practical knowledge that can improve crop production, protect soil health, and strengthen long‑term sustainability. This event encourages learning, community interaction, and preparedness for the future of farming.
