Indiana Corn and Soybean Yields on Pace to Record Highs

Indiana farmers continue to anticipate record high corn and soybean yields this year, according to Nathanial Warenski, state statistician, USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office. The October Crop Production Report is based on conditions as of October 1, 2021. Some highlights of the report follow:

- Indiana corn yield is expected to be 194 bushels per acre, 7 bushels higher than last year's yield but 3 bushels lower than last month's forecast. Total production is expected to be 1.02 billion bushels, up 4 percent from 2020. If realized, this will be the highest Indiana corn yield on record.

- Indiana soybean production is expected to total 341 million bushels, up 1 percent from a year earlier. The yield is forecast at 60 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from 2020 and unchanged from last month. If realized, this will be the highest yield on record.

- Nationally, 2021 corn production for grain is forecast at 15.0 billion bushels and is anticipated to be the second highest production on record for the United States. The forecasted yield, at 176.5 bushels per acre, is up 3 percent from last year's final estimate of 171.4 bushels per acre. If realized, this would be the second highest yield on record for the United States. Record high yields are forecast in California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina

- U.S. 2021 soybean production is forecast at 4.45 billion bushels and is anticipated to be the highest production on record for the United States. The forecasted yield, at 51.5 bushels per acre, is up 0.9 bushel from the previous forecast and up 0.5 bushel from last year's final estimate of 51.0 bushels per acre. If realized, this would be the second highest yield on record for the United States. Record high yields are forecast in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
